Description - What to expect

Upon arrival at the wilderness center of Camp Tamok, get fitted with all the warm clothes and boots provided. Your activity instructor will demonstrate for you how to safely operate the snowmobile and give you an overview of the adventure ahead.

You will be driving in pairs, one driver and one passenger on each snowmobile, with the opportunity to switch places during the trip. Hop on your snowmobile and drive past scenic mountains and through the dramatic snow-covered Finndalen valley, starting at 250 m above sea level, climbing up to 900 m. The distance of the trail is about 15 km each way, and the entire distance will be covered in approximately 2.5 hours.

The top point of the trail is the ice-covered Finnvatnet lake, where you can relax and admire the scenery of Finndalen. If time and weather permits, you will have the opportunity to try your skills on ice fishing!

After driving back down the trail it is time for a hot lunch in a traditional North Norwegian setting around the open fire in a reindeer herder’s tent. During the relaxing camp stay, you can also enjoy a hot cup of coffee or tea while feeding the campfire and explore the wilderness camp at your leisure. The unique environment at the camp is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the silence. Your host will share stories about the locality and its traditions.

In the afternoon, say hello to a bunch of barking huskies that are ready for action (but still very friendly). You´ll drive the dog sled into the white landscapes, through the beautiful Vassdalen valley - an uninhabited forest landscape surrounded by majestic mountains. Experienced mushers will provide instructions about how to drive a dog team.

You will be driving in pairs, one driver and one passenger on each sled, with the opportunity to switch places halfway. The trails you follow have a total distance of approximately 10-12 km, and you will be on the sled for about 1.5-2.0 hours. At the end of the trail, you will return to Camp Tamok, where you will be served a hot meal and fresh coffee in the dining lavvu (Sami herdsmen’s tent). After having your meal, your bus will take you back to downtown Tromsø.
