Description - What to expect

Our half -day hiking experience to Fygou and Agia Irini gorge from Chania with 1-hour drive towards Omalos Plateau located at 1050 m. You will have a short break for a coffee and a traditional pancake while admiring the spectacular Cretan mountains around you.

Our hiking adventure starts from Agioi Theodori all the way down to Vasiliki Strata (Venetian path) and then we continue to Fygou Gorge. The Gorge Fygou is a small, but very beautiful short canyon located near Sougia and is a sub-gorge of the popular gorge of Agia Irini. It is an exceptionally beautiful place with lush vegetation full of cypresses and oaks. Along the way, you will have several breaks for relaxing and capturing with your camera the gorge formations before you arrive at an abandoned settlement.
Our hike continues via Agia Irini gorge 7 km long. The walk ends at the village of Sougia, a pleasant small coastal village on the southern side of Crete. The scenery is full of cliffs and rocks and the steep sides of the mountains will guide you to walk along the rocky river bed. There are several endemic species of vegetation in the gorge and surrounding area, as well as many species of flowers, birds and also the rare Cretan wild goat (kri kri).
Our hiking continues up on the mountains via Vasiliki Stata ( Venetian path) back to the staring point
