Description - What to expect

Mount Olympus Trekking Itinerary

◾ Arrival day: You will be picked up from Thessaloniki airport and, after a 1-hour drive, arrive in Litochoro, the picturesque town located at the foot of Mount Olympus. Depending on the time of your arrival you will have time to walk around the town, take a short hike, and get the first glimpse of Mytikas summit in the distance. Dinner and overnight in Litochoro.

◾ First day: Explore Litochoro & hike to Christos Kakkalos Shelter (2.700 m)
During your first Mount Olympus trekking day, you will explore the beautiful town of Litochoro and hike up through dense fir forest to the Christos Kakkalos mountain shelter. The shelter is set on the Alpine Plateau of Mouses, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding picks and the distant Saronic bay. The mountain shelter offers accommodation in clean and well-maintained dormitories and delicious food is served to the guests.

◾ Second day: Peak ascents (2.917m) – Refuge Sphlios Agapitos (2.100 m)
Enjoy a tasty breakfast and get ready to continue your Mount Olympus trekking adventure. Depending on the weather and the fitness of the group members, you will have two options. The first option will be to cross the Zonaria Pass and climb Skala Peak at 2.882 meters and from there climb to the summit of Skolio at 2.911 meters. The second option is to try an ascent to the summit of Mytikas (2.917 meters). Ascending the Mytikas summit is a unique experience that is going to overwhelm you. Full of excitement and joy for your accomplishment, start your careful descent to Sphlios Agaphtos Shelter at 2.100m, where you will spend your night.

◾ Third day: Sphlios Agapitos Shelter (2100m) - Prionia (1100m) - Enipeas Gorge - Litochoro
This is the most demanding day of your Mount Olympus trekking, as you will be descending all the way to Prionia at 1100m. The route from Spilios Agapitos shelter to Prionia is the trail most often used by hikers and is part of the E4 European trail network. Most of your hiking is through lush forests of pine, beech, and fir trees. Gradually you will descend to the spectacular Enippeas Gorge, passing by a cave chapel and the monastery of St. Dionysus. Along the route, you will have the opportunity to cool off in the clean and refreshing waters running in the middle of the gorge. After about seven hours of hiking, you will reach the town of Litochoro. Overnight at Litochoro.

◾ Departure day: You will be driven back to Thessaloniki to catch your flight or assisted otherwise in case you continue your holiday in Greece.
