Description - What to expect

Mount Olympus Hike – 2-Day Adventure

Day 1: Litochoro – Plateau of Muses – Profitis Ilias
Your Mount Olympus Hike begins in Litochoro, where we meet our guide in the village square before transferring by minibus to Gortsia (1,120 m). From here, we start our ascent along one of the most popular and scenic routes on Mount Olympus.

The trail from Gortsia to Petrostrougka Refuge (1,940 m), and onward to the Plateau of Muses (2,680 m), offers a diverse and rewarding hiking experience. The first section winds through a dense forest of pine, beech, and fir trees, creating a shaded and refreshing start to the journey.

After a short break at Petrostrougka Refuge, we continue toward Skourta Peak (2,485 m), where the landscape gradually transitions into an alpine environment. From here, breathtaking panoramic views unfold in every direction. We then follow the narrow ridge known as “Laimos” (the Neck), which leads us to Giosos Apostolidis Refuge, where we will spend the night.

In the afternoon, we hike to the chapel of Profitis Ilias (2,803 m), one of the highest chapels in the Balkans, to witness a spectacular sunset. Dinner is served at the refuge, followed by an overnight stay.

Walking time: 5–6 hours

Day 2: Summit Attempt – Prionia – Return to Litochoro
We begin the second day of our Mount Olympus Hike early in the morning, enjoying breakfast with stunning views of Stefani Peak. Depending on weather conditions and the group’s fitness level, we attempt to reach the highest summit of Greece, Mytikas (2,918 m), or alternatively Skala Peak (2,882 m).

After reaching the summit, we begin our descent, crossing beneath the dramatic cliffs of Stefani—also known as the “Throne of Zeus”—via the impressive Zonaria traverse. We rejoin the main trail leading to Spilios Agapitos Refuge (2,100 m), where we take a well-deserved break for lunch and relaxation.

From here, the final stage of our Mount Olympus Hike takes us down to Prionia (1,100 m), a scenic descent of approximately 2–3 hours. At Prionia, our minibus awaits to transfer us back to Litochoro village, marking the end of an unforgettable adventure.

Walking time: 7–8 hours

  • We absolutely loved the experience organized by Gofreedly and executed by Georgios.
He's a master in organisation, and foresaw everything we could possibly need during the trip, from tents to snacks and... a Greek apetizer from time to time.

He's very good company with great knowledge about the history and nature of the environment.

Thanks for the great experience Georgios and gofreedly team!
