Since 1999, the historic Reichstag building in Berlin has once again been the seat of the German Bundestag. During the division of Germany and the GDR, parliament had moved to Bonn in West Germany. As a symbol of the reunification of Germany in November 1989, the government decided to return to Berlin - this also included the parliament, the Bundestag. Today the Bundestag is the most popular parliament building in the world. More than a million people visit the historic Reichstag building every year.

What makes the German Bundestag so important for the visitor? Definitely because of its dramatic history. The building was erected in the 1870s and experienced difficult times, Imperial times, crises, and conditions similar to civil war, two world wars, revolutions, the division of Germany, and reunification after almost 40 years.
