Amboseli National Park is the Second most popular national park in Kenya after Maasai Mara, 260km (160 miles) from Nairobi City. Amboseli lies northwest of Mount Kilimanjaro, on the border with Tanzania Southern Kenya, and eastern Africa. It is one of Kenya’s most popular parks crowned by Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak.Amboseli National Park is among the largest surviving National parks in Kenya and East Africa situated in the southern part of Kenya in the Kajiado district. The park is seated on 39,206 hectares of land at the core of an 8,000 km ecosystem that spreads through the Kenya-Tanzania border.
Amboseli national park is home to a large concentration of wildlife, estimated to be 80 different species including African elephant, African buffalo, impalas, lion, zebra, and wildebeest among others. Amboseli park is also home to a number of birds estimated to be 400 species which include the African swamp hen, Common redshank, Dickinson’s kestrel, Eurasian thick-knee, Greater flamingo, Hartlaub’s bustard, Lesser flamingo, Long-toed lapwing, Pangani longclaw, Rufous chatterer, Rufous-bellied heron, Spike-heeled lark, Steel-blue whydah, Taveta golden weaver, Von der Decken’s hornbill, Yellow-necked spurfowl and many more.
