Description - What to expect

Get picked up from your hotel as early as 8.00 am and cross the Nyali bridge heading to Mombasa old town. Your tour starts with a visit of impressive Fort Jesus, built by the Portuguese in the 16th Century. Listen from your guide the fascinating history of the fort and how it was converted into a prison in 1985 before finally, it took its place as one of the important historical landmarks of Mombasa.

Your tour continues through a maze of narrow alleys, picturesque houses, old mosques, and crowded, markets packed with exotic spice and fruits before you break for lunch to try a Swahili delicacy of either pilau or biriani in a traditional restaurant and get the feel of the distinctive local cuisine.

After your lunch break drive through the famous Elephant Tusks landmark on Moi Avenue. The Tasks symbolized Mombasa as the gateway to the ivory trade during the Arab trade era. Take time for some memorable pictures of the vibrant city center and its buzzing tuk-tuks swirling around in the streets.

In the afternoon, visit Haller's Nature Park, a fascinating place at the heart of the city, home to many animals, including, among other smaller mammals and birds, hippos, giraffes, buffalos, antelopes, and crocodiles. The Park is a great place, and it features a reptile park, a fish farm, a palm garden, and a giraffe-viewing platform where you will have the opportunity, depending on the time of the visit, to feed these majestic animals. The Park is home to a large diversity of vegetation and includes several rare and endangered species.
