Optional things-to-do/Activities

Mount Pelion is a four-seasons treasure of activities for all ages. From hiking and horse riding to sailing and water sports, there is an adventure for everyone. In The Orchard Guesthouse, you can find information about a range of activities throughout the Pelion area. We can also help you create an activity schedule suited to your interests and your time.

The heritage train of Pelion
Just down the road from The Orchard Guesthouse is the Ano Lechonia railway station. From there, the old “little train” begins its journey to the traditional village of Milies high up the mountain. The 60 cm gauge line, one of the narrowest in the world, climbs slowly up the mountainside offering spectacular vistas over Pagasitikos Bay, breathtaking views over deep gorges and beautiful architectural features like arched stone bridges, tunnels and retaining walls. The only stop is at the small village of Ano Gatzea, for refreshments and a visit to the Olive Museum.

Hiking trips
Leda and Cameron are members of the “Friends of the Kalderimi of South Pelion”, a group of volunteers who painstakingly clear and mark the old “kalderimia” – cobbled paths - that used to be the only way of communication between the Pelion villages. Every Saturday throughout the winter months, the group gathers to clean and restore the paths. On Sundays, they organize walks throughout the path network that they have cleared. Most walks are suitable for all fitness levels, and they are free, although donations are always welcome. For more information, please visit www.friendsofthekalderimi.org

Mountain biking
In the beautiful coastal village of Kato Gatzea, just 5km from The Orchard Guesthouse, are the headquarters of Montis Ordo. There you can hire bikes for a ride through the mountains and along the beaches. https://www.gofreedly.com/listing/yng8zl-pelion-activities-private-small-group-cycling-tour

Sailing tours
The small fishing ports of Gatzea and Kala Nera are teeming with small yachts that offer day cruises on Pagasitikos Bay and the island of Trikeri. There are many options, but we suggest you try a day cruise using the following link: https://www.gofreedly.com/listing/u839sw0x5u-volos-sailing-private-full-day-sailing-cruise-from-volos

Horse riding
The Horse riding and Nature Club of Milies is based in Kala Nera and Koropi, just a few km away. They offer a great variety of rides, from beginner to expert, following the spectacular mountain and coastal trails. www.ifom.gr

We also accept house-trained pets but be aware that there are several other dogs around the neighborhood.
