Description - What to expect

Start your Andes Mountains experience with a convenient pick-up from your hotel and set out on an adventure into the heart of the Andes. Admire the scenic surroundings as you head towards the town of Los Andes. On the way, pass by the Monument to the Battle of Chacabuco, which led to Chile’s Independence. Afterward, on a clear day, you will start to see views of Mount Aconcagua, the tallest mountain in the Western Hemisphere, at 22,841 feet above sea level.

Continue deeper into the Aconcagua Valley and then into the middle of the Andes on a windy road known as “El Caracol” (The Snail), to an altitude of almost 9,000 feet above sea level. You will feel your heart race with excitement as your driver expertly maneuvers sharp bends and curves. Aside from stunning mountain scenery on this tour, you will also be able to see remnants of the ancient Inca Trail used by the Inca to cross the Andes. The Trans-Andean Railway would later be built following this trail in an intricate route winding between tunnels through steep cliffs.

Just miles away from the border with Argentina, you will reach your destination: “Laguna del Inca” (Inca Lagoon). Engross yourself in tales of the lagoon’s legendary past and learn about myths and the history behind this sacred body of water. On the lagoon’s edge is Portillo, the oldest ski resort in South America. Here, you can have a cup of coffee or tea while taking in the spectacular views of the glittering lagoon surrounded by the peaks of the Andes.

Next stop, visit the largest privately-owned alpaca farm in Chile. Indulge in nature and discover alpacas up close. You will see the entire alpaca wool production process and enjoy a broad selection of exclusive creations and handmade alpaca wool items that portray the patrimony and spirit of the Andean culture, which is the World of the Alpacas.

Afterward, there will be time for lunch (not included), if you choose, at a rustic countryside restaurant called “Hornitos” before returning to your hotel.
