About the boat

Nereida is a classic wooden Rena Class sailing yacht, designed in 1944 by John G Alden, one of the greatest naval architects of all time. She was built in 1984 of iroko and mahogany, the last known yacht of this design – considered by many to be John Alden’s finest. Supremely elegant under sail, steadfast in heavy seas, the Rena yachts included royalty amongst their proud owners. Nereida has crossed the Atlantic several times as well as sailing all over the Mediterranean.
Inside she is paneled in mahogany and furnished in traditional style with brass fittings and leather upholstery.
Restored by the current owners in 2012, she fully conforms to European safety standards.

John Alden – The making of a legend
Born in 1884, in America, the naval architect John Alden, is regarded by many as the greatest boat designer who ever lived.
His yachts are characterized by gentle curves and streamlined underwater profiles to give an overall impression of extreme elegance. Alden founded The Alden design Office in 1909 and by the 1930s, the company enjoyed world renown and still continues to this day. Nereida was built from plans bought from the Boston City Museum. She is a fine example of an Alden design and is featured in the Alden Company Design Data Base.
