Description - What to expect

Your Reykjavik northern lights tour starts off with a pick-up from the closest designated location to your hotel in Reykjavik. Leave the city light pollution behind and head out into the darkness of the Icelandic countryside.

Unlike other tours, there is no set itinerary or route that you will follow. You will travel for about 90 minutes from Reykjavík while your guides seek out cloudless skies. Earlier in the day, they will have studied the aurora and cloud forecasts for the evening, and based on this information they will have a good idea of the best areas to view the lights.

Whilst en route, your knowledgeable guide will share stories and information about the northern lights and Iceland. When you reach the best spotting location you will get an opportunity to stretch your legs while you wait for the lights to appear. Your guide can offer advice on the best camera settings to use when trying to capture the aurora.

Northern Lights Hunting
The Aurora Borealis, known commonly as the Northern Lights, is a naturally occurring light display, commonly seen in high latitude locations. These ethereal lights are formed when solar winds agitate the magnetic field of the earth, ionizing the particles and causing them to give off light which we see in the form of the wispy bands of color across the night sky. The aurora can form in a variety of colors depending on the altitude of the particles where they become ionized.
