Description - What to expect

Meet your guide and start your Naples food tour in the historical center of the city. The first stop will be the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, more commonly known as the Duomo of St Gennaro. This cathedral was built at the end of the 13th century by Charles of Anjou. The cathedral is famous for the preservation of the relics of St Gennaro. The Duomo of St Gennaro was damaged a few years after its construction and then was bombed in 1943 so, consequently, it was restored. The facade of the cathedral was built in a Neo-Gothic architectural style.

After admiring the architectural beauty of the Duomo, follow your professional guide to Via dei Tribunali, a very colorful and picturesque street where you can breathe in the lively atmosphere surrounding you. Here, your professional guide will take you to a local shop to taste the famous Tarallo Napoletano, a salty cookie like no other. This Neapolitan delicacy is very savory with a spicy kick to it. You will get to choose your favorite flavor and enjoy this traditional little snack during this Naples food tour.

Next to your Naples food tour head to Via San Gregorio Armeno, a street known for its multiple shops where locals sell their handicraft figurines and Nativity scenes. As you admire the tiny shops, let your guide tell you about the history of this street and its tradition of handmade terracotta figurines. You will then walk along Spaccanapoli, a narrow and lively street that crosses the historical center of Naples, dividing the city into two parts.

Then, head to Piazza del Gesù Nuovo, one of the many charming squares in Naples where you can admire the church of Gesù Nuovo standing tall and proud. This church was built between 1584 and 1601, at the request of the Jesuits. Next to the church of Gesù Nuovo stands the Guglia dell’Immacolata, a pillar built in the 18th century where Rococo and Gothic art mingle together beautifully.

You will then continue the Naples food tour in the direction of the oldest opera house in the world, the marvelous Teatro di San Carlo. This theatre was first opened in 1737 and is still one of the most prestigious theatres in Italy. Continue by heading to one of Italy’s most beautiful squares, Piazza del Plebiscito. Located in the heart of the center, it is surrounded by monuments of great historical value.

Your last stop will be in Via Toledo, an ancient street and also one of Naples's most important shopping spots, perfect for souvenirs or artisanal products. No trip to Naples would be complete without having a taste of the most authentic pizza in Italy, as Naples is the birthplace of pizza!

During this Naples food tour, you will taste "pizza portofoglio", which translates to "pizza wallet", since the pizza is folded on itself like a wallet. Of course, last but not least, to finish the tour on a sweet note, have yourself a traditional Napolitan dessert such as the babà or a crispy Sfogliatella or anything your heart desires accompanied with a delicious warm espresso!
